Mercury is the planet for all sorts of communications like phone calls, mailing, messages, writing, teaching, talks, speeches, gestures, signals, reading, grasping, physical movements, jour- neys and also thoughts. The press, journalism, copying, typing, printing, duplicating, drawing, paper work, sketches, plans, calculators, media, circulation, distribution, publications, publicity, interviews, invitations, estimates, registration, records, filing and all paper work, computers and mental work come under the jurisdiction of Mercury. So Mercury plays a significant role in daily affairs. In Western Astrology, Mercury is regarded as "Messenger of Gods".
The planets-except Sun and Moon are so called because they always move. Sometimes they appear to be going backward or retrograde, when viewed from Earth, like a slow moving vehicle when seen from a fast moving vehicle. A planet appears to remain stationery(in the same place without motion) for a while before and after retrograde motion.
During the period of Retrograde Mercury people may commit mis- takes by oversight, loss of memory, lack of concentration, confu- sion, hesitation, misunderstanding, diversion of mind or mislead- ing factors. Errors of omission and commission may occur causing loss or trouble. Forged documents, false certificates, duplicate currency notes, and wrong statements may be fabricated by intel- ligent con artists. We often find absent minded professors speaking on irrelevant subjects deviating from the main topic or forgetting the subject. It is funny to notice a person using shaving cream instead of tooth paste or vice versa.
Sometimes we may receive an invitation to attend a function or meeting after it is over; or post letters to wrong addresses. Sudden change of traffic regulations like oneway-traffic, No entry, route diversion, etc., make a short trip a long journey. Late arrival of trains or buses or sudden cancellations may test our patience or cause lot of inconvenience and trouble. You may have the same experience when you are late to realise that you are traveling in a wrong train or proceeding in a wrong route.
Printers Devils appear very often, causing fun and pain. The meaning of a word or sentence may change if a letter is omitted or added or a word mis-spelt or punctuation mark given in a wrong place. Some words differ in spelling and meaning, though there is no difference in utterance like decease & disease, desert & dessert, whole & hole, while some words have different meaning. Generally such mistakes may occur in writing, typing, copying or printing. Such mistakes may give negative or different meaning and cause misunderstanding and confusion. Some terms in an agreement or contract signed in this period can be interpreted in a different way to the advantage of the other party.
There is scope for mistakes in calculating figures and per cent age. Such mistakes in tenders, estimates, statements, invoices and contracts may cause losses. Even computers may give wrong figures or numbers at times due to some fault in the system or operation.
Generally we may rewrite, revise, correct or alter the script or repeat or re-do certain things during this period. We may waste time in searching for papers or articles misplaced. We may misunderstand the meaning of what others said, wrote or advised. We may miss some interviews, appointments and meetings. Some one may mislead us with wrong information.
Retrograde Mercury in the horoscope makes us indecisive regarding education, career, marriage or other affairs of the house occu- pied and ruled by Mercury. It may create confusion and hesita- tion or force us to change our views or commit mistakes.
So we have to be alert during the period of Retrograde Mercury and do things with presence of mind and concentration.
